TOOTH SOLDIER DEPLOYED TO AFRICA RETURNS HOME SAFELY!
Private Chelsea has returned from her trip to Africa! She delivered hundreds of tubes of toothpaste and toothbrushes. Heres what Chelsea had to say about it:
"The kolfe boys orphanage is a government run, all boys orphanage. It has little to no supervision most of the time time, and the people that run it are constantly changing. The boys range from the ages of 8-21 and it sometimes maxes out to 300 boys. When we went to deliver the toothbrushes and toothpaste, we also purchased fruit and bread from the closest markets to give to the boys. Their faces lit up like children on Christmas morning over fruit, bread, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. I just couldn't believe how excited they got over something so simple. At first we had a plan on how to distribute everything, food first then toothbrushes. So we sat all the boys down in their lunchroom area. Handing out the fruit and bread was pretty easy. They gobbled it down in seconds though.
Yet, as we started to hand out the toothbrushes, is when things started to become a little chaotic. The boys swarmed us, and started sticking the toothbrushes in their pants or shirts so they can get another toothbrush. They then kept asking for "Colgate", a.k.a. toothpaste on repeAt. We decided it wouldn't be a good idea to distribute that, too. So we placed the toothpaste in the office to be distributed at a later time.
Overall it was an experience and a great turn out. The boys needed toothbrushes and toothpaste so much. It was amazing and humbling for me to see how happy they became over something so simple to Americans.
Private Chelsea with BTC: OPERATION AFRICA, Over and Out."
What a trip!!!! So thankful that Chelsea was able to do this. CLASSIC. Checkout the photos from operation africa Below:
